Torment XII represents the highest level of endgame difficulty for players who want to test how far their characters can go. It is also one of the most rewarding options for those who can clear it efficiently. When thinking about D4 items and long-term progression, T12 offers more loot opportunities, better chances to find valuable Greater Affix gear, and special Mythic farming benefits.
However, difficulty alone does not determine efficiency. Players interested in D4 items need to consider how quickly their characters can clear T12 compared with T10. A powerful build can turn T12 into a productive farming zone, while a weaker build may get better results by staying at a lower tier and completing more runs per hour.
The biggest advantage of T12 is the higher overall volume of rewards. The system does not simply unlock a completely new level of equipment, but it does increase the number of items you can receive during endgame activities.
One noticeable example is boss chest loot. Depending on the activity, T12 can provide around 11 to 12 Unique items, while T10 may provide closer to 8 to 9. Over a single run, the difference is manageable. Over a long farming session, however, the extra drops can create many more opportunities for useful upgrades.
This is particularly valuable for players who are hunting for rare combinations rather than basic upgrades.
Once a character has most of its build completed, progression slows down. You may already have the correct Unique items and optimized Legendary gear, but you are now looking for stronger versions with better Affixes.
This is where T12 can shine.
More loot means more opportunities to find Greater Affix items. A 3GA or 4GA upgrade may be difficult to find, but increasing the number of items you see over time improves your overall chances.
Still, players should not confuse higher quantity with guaranteed quality. T12 can produce a large number of drops without giving you the exact item you want. The advantage comes from repeated farming, not from expecting every run to produce something exceptional.
The most significant reason for pushing T12 may be the Mythic reward system connected to the Kurast Undercity. Players using Mythic Tributes of Armaments can benefit from guaranteed Mythic rewards when running the appropriate content at T12.
This gives T12 a more specific purpose beyond simply increasing loot volume. If your main goal is to collect Mythic Uniques, the ability to target guaranteed rewards can make the higher difficulty extremely attractive.
Of course, this strategy works best when your character is already strong. If you spend too much time fighting your way through the Undercity, the benefit of the guaranteed reward may come with a large efficiency cost.
Players with a good stockpile of Mythic Tributes should consider T12 seriously, especially if their build can clear the content quickly and consistently.
The strongest argument for staying at T10 is simple: time matters.
Suppose your character clears a T10 activity in five minutes but needs ten or more minutes for T12. Even if T12 provides more items per run, you may complete twice as many T10 runs during the same period.
This creates an important balance between reward quality and farming speed. A fast T10 build can generate a surprisingly large amount of loot because it constantly moves from one activity to the next.
Survivability also matters. Dying in T12, restarting encounters, or spending too much time dealing with difficult modifiers can quickly reduce your effective rewards per hour.
A good sign that your build is ready for T12 is consistency. You should be able to clear the content without relying on perfect conditions every time. Bosses should not become long endurance fights, and normal Elite encounters should not stop your progress.
If you can maintain that level of performance, T12 becomes much more attractive. The increased loot volume and Mythic opportunities can then outweigh the higher enemy health.
If your build is still struggling, there is no shame in farming T10. Efficient progression is more important than simply playing at the highest available difficulty.
In the end, T12 is best for players whose builds can turn its higher rewards into real farming efficiency. If your character is ready, the additional loot and Mythic opportunities make it a strong endgame choice, while players still improving their setup may find that focusing on D4 Gold through legitimate gameplay and other progression methods gives them a smoother path toward becoming T12-ready.
